About the Department

The Three Years Degree Course of Mathematics with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects was introduced in the college in 1978. The Science Stream was brought under a deficit-grant-in-aid system in 1986. Major in Mathematics was offered in the year 1997. The department of Mathematics was the founding department in the Science Stream. Sri Putul Ch. Mahanta was the founder faculty member of the department. Two posts against Sri Putul Ch. Mahanta and Sri Bipul Ch. Bhuyan were sanctioned at the time of taking over. In 2002, Sri Bipul Ch. Bhuyan left the department to join D.R. College, Golaghat. In place of Bipul Bhuyan, Sri Basanta Bora appointed on 01-08-2000. Later, Sri Ranjit Sen, Miss Mira Das, Sri Hemchandra Mahanta, Sri Guna Kanta Das, and Nabajit Saikia were appointed as part-time lecturers in the department. On 01-03-2014, Sri Putul Ch. Mahanta retired from the college. In place of Sri Mahanta, Mrs. Dimpee Baruah joined as Assistant Professor in the department on 15-12-2017.

Vision:

The vision of our department is to make students grow in their chosen professions and make them productive citizens. Also, encourage students to develop their social activities.

Departmental Library:

There is a small library in the Department. The library contains more than 100 numbers of books. Most of the books are donated by teachers and students of the department. A student may be issued two books at a time from the departmental library which is required to be returned within fifteen days.

Departmental Laboratory:

The department has a computer lab too. The laboratory is common with B. Voc (IT) stream. The entire Mathematical practicals are done in the lab. The department also has a computer in the Department Teachers’ Common room.

Mentoring:
In our department, we take a rule in mentoring the students. We address their wants and needs timely. Listen to their request and honor those requests. We encourage our students. Include them in every meeting and activity in our department and college. We allow them to ask any question and try to solve their question. As our department has only two faculties so the students are divided into two groups and each faculty mentoring their respective group.
